3. Notice of CSLA Dues Structure Change

As part of our required due diligence process, the CSLA Board has reviewed our financial operations model and concluded that CSLA will  revise its current practice in order  that we may capture significant Input Tax Credits (ITC) and reduce our annual expenses.

At the August 2009 BOD meeting the following motion was passed:
Commencing 2010, CSLA will make members dues and all operations taxable.  If feasible, CSLA will reduce Component Organization fees to offset the new GST payment members will have to make for this transition year.

The outcome of this action is that commencing 2010, your CSLA dues will be taxed with GST.  The Board has further approved that for this first year of GST taxation, our dues will be reduced by an equivalent amount so the total amount paid remains the same.  The majority of our members will be able to structure their accounting to benefit by claiming this ITC.  This action is necessary for the CSLA to prepare in advance of possible future HST tax changes proposed in the coming year.
