WLAM Poster

One of the key communication tools of WLAM celebrations is the CSLA World Landscape Architecture Month poster. Each year the CSLA sponsors a poster competition, and the winning poster design is distributed across the country to our component associations, schools, members and professional offices, and to public governments and organizations.

2010 WLAM Poster

The poster was inspired by the desire to bring nature back into our urban environments. In order to experience the beauty of the Canadian wilderness, most people have to abandon the ‘concrete jungle’ that they live in. The right side of the poster represents the future integration of nature into the city, while the left side represents the beauty of the outdoors. The landscape design in the stream displays the creative flow of landscape architecture and planning in the creation of natural urban spaces. There are 13 maple leafs in or around the stream which portray each province and territory in Canada. The sky line represents the prairies and the seasonal colours. There are 7 Canadian Geese in the top right corner of the poster, each one representing a landform region of Canada (Western Cordillera, Interior Plains, Canadian Shield, Great Lakes/ St Lawrence Lowlands, Appalachian Mountains, Innuitian Mountains and Arctic Lowlands). All these elements represent how landscape architecture incorporates nature into Canadian environments.
